Fly Me to the moon
Bob Kelly
WAA VP for Field Events
Bob Kelly will present the story of our Moon and human exploration of our nearest neighbor in space. We’ll hear about how the Moon was formed and what the brighter and darker areas are all about.
From 1969 to 1972, nine missions went to the Moon, and twelve astronauts landed there. You’ll hear and see excerpts of the Apollo program’s adventures of landing on the Moon.
We’ll have a closer look at the instrument panels of these lunar spacecraft on posters 1/3 life-size.
You will have the opportunity to take a selfie in front of a panorama of the Apollo 15 moon landing site, while wearing a photo-realistic shirt of Neil Armstrong’s lunar spacesuit.
We’ll use plastic Easter Eggs of various weights to make impacts in a simulated lunar surface and compare our results.
(This is an updated posting – due to illness, our previously announced speaker, Piyush Khopkar, will be unavailable to speak with us this Friday. We look forward to having Piyush speak to us at a later date).
Free and open to the public. We encourage in-person attendance to better connect with fellow club members.
